Who we are
Dog Food Reviewed is run by [legal name: to be added before launch], the data controller for this website. Contact us at [contact email: to be added before launch] or by post at [postal address: to be added before launch].
What we collect, and why
If you just browse
We don’t use advertising cookies and we don’t build a profile of you. Our host, Cloudflare, processes your IP address and browser details for a short time to deliver pages and protect the site from attacks. That’s necessary to run the website (our legitimate interest in keeping it working and secure), and we don’t store IP addresses in our own database.
Visit counts, only if you accept
If you accept analytics in the banner, we use Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages are useful. It sets two cookies, records the pages you view, roughly where you are (town or region), your device and browser, and how you found us, and it does not keep your IP address. Google processes this for us and may do so outside the UK. We rely on your consent, you can withdraw it at any time on the cookies page, and if you decline we load nothing from Google. We don’t use the data for advertising.
When you click through to a retailer
We record that a link was clicked: which food and retailer, the time, your country (as reported by Cloudflare) and whether the click looked automated. We don’t record your IP address or anything that identifies you. We use these counts to see which retailers are useful and, if a link is an affiliate link, to reconcile commission (legitimate interest). Once you’re on the retailer’s site, its own privacy policy and cookies apply, including any affiliate network that tracks the referral.
Your dog’s profile
If you tell us your dog’s name, weight or needs to see daily costs and fit, that’s saved only in your own browser (local storage). It never reaches our servers. Your dog’s shortlist is worked out in your browser too, from a list of foods that’s the same for everyone. You can clear the profile from the profile panel or your browser settings at any time.
If you choose “Filter for” your dog on the food list, or open the full list from your dog’s shortlist, the filters that sets (life stage, food types and ingredients to leave out) go into the page address like any filter you pick, so our server can list the foods. Your dog’s profile itself stays in your browser.
Saved foods
Foods you save are kept only in your own browser (local storage) and never sent to us. Clear them from the saved foods page or your browser settings.
If you report a mistake
The corrections form collects the product, what’s wrong and any source link you give us. Your email address is optional; if you give it, we use it only to reply about your report. Reports are kept as part of our correction record; ask us and we’ll delete your email address from yours.
If you join the newsletter
We store your email address, when you signed up and which page you signed up on, so we can send the newsletter you asked for (your consent). Every email has an unsubscribe link. When you unsubscribe we delete your address straight away, keeping only a one-way scrambled copy (a hash) so we don’t add it back by mistake.
Who else handles your data
Cloudflare, Inc. hosts the website and its database. Our database is held in the European Union. Cloudflare acts on our instructions under its data processing terms, which include the UK’s approved safeguards for any transfer outside the UK. If you accept analytics, Google (Google Ireland Limited and Google LLC) also handles your visit data for us under its data processing terms. If we start using an email service for the newsletter, we’ll name it here before we move any addresses to it. We never sell or rent personal data.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you can ask us for a copy of your data, to correct it, to delete it, to restrict or object to how we use it, and to receive it in a portable form. Where we rely on your consent (the newsletter and analytics) you can withdraw it at any time. Contact us at [contact email: to be added before launch] and we’ll reply within one month.
If you’re unhappy with how we’ve handled your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113. We’d appreciate the chance to sort it out first.
Children
The site is for adults choosing food for their dogs. We don’t knowingly collect data from children under 13.
Changes
If we change what we collect, we’ll update this page and the date at the top before the change happens. See also our cookie notice and terms of use.
